Here, words like award-winning, filled with zeal etc. are going to catch the reader’s eye, thus strengthening your chances of getting a call for further formalities such as an interview.

Professional Summary/ Major Achievements:

If you are fairly experienced, rather than writing a career objective you can choose to pen down your professional summary. Typically, this is a short description of three to five major achievements, or a brief summary of your professional experience, highlighting the responsibilities or actions that show you in the best light. Use strong action verbs here to demonstrate your importance to the role and the impact of your actions.

If you were able to solve a significant problem or contributed greatly to a specific effort, this is the best place to put it. Like the Objective section for new applicants, the professional summary is the first thing that the recruiter or hiring manager will see on your resume.

It will be a good idea to quantify your roles and achievements, rather than using elements from a standard job description. For instance,

 “Headed a team of 5 security guards, in a 120 apartment, gated community. Was responsible for the safety of the residential area and the clubhouse, along with supervising the smooth functioning of surveillance equipment.”

Notice, how we have mentioned the number of guards as well as the number of apartments. This is done to convey the scale of responsibilities that you are capable of handling.

Make sure that your summary comprises of the type of establishment you have served, whether it is an office, a bank, a commercial building or a residential project. This will help the recruiter understand your potential.

Pro Tip – Always introduce yourself as a security officer rather than a security guard. This will help the recruiter see you in a more responsible and professional light.

Work Experience:

 You ought to list down your work experience in a reverse chronological order. Under this section you should enlist your key result areas for every organization that you have served. In addition, wherever possible, don’t shy away from quantifying your achievements such as –

 Was responsible for security surveillance in a 200+ room hotel

You can also do so in other respects such as –

  • Number of visitors the establishment received each day
  • Number of cameras that you supervised

Given that most establishments offer on-the-job training or at least induction to new employees, you can almost always apply as a fresher, without any significant job experience. The training will help you get a hang of some of the most reliable security methods and surveillance techniques while giving you an opportunity to learn more about the establishment you’re working for. However, you must understand that due to your comparatively low experience, you may not be offered a high salary.

Educational Qualifications:

For anyone looking forward to a promising security personnel job, it is highly recommended to have a high-school diploma. Then again, any extra certifications or classes that you have attended can also be given a place in your resume. This helps convey the fact that not only is your formal education up to the industry standards but also that you’re seriously inclined to be the best at what you do.

 

Additional Skills, Certifications, and Licenses:

Traditionally, security guard resumes used to be printed out and sent to hospitals and healthcare centers in the hard copy. Today, however, the applications are processed digitally.

You may either send the application to your employer via email, or they could find it on a job board.
